What are the structural requirements for installing this tension structure system?
Safety is paramount. While the coir is lightweight when dry, you must calculate for wet load. The natural fibers absorb water, potentially doubling the weight. Your anchor points on posts or walls, as well as turnbuckles, must be rated to withstand this increased high-tension load. Do not install this as a flat sheet; ensure proper tension to prevent pooling.
Why does the sail sag after rain, and is it a defect?
It is not a defect. This is a natural characteristic of coconut fiber. Coir relaxes slightly when wet. To maintain the ideal shape and aesthetic, you may need to re-tension the turnbuckles after the first few rain cycles. For the best stability and appearance, we recommend a twisted or hyperbolic installation style to maintain tight edges and a proper catenary curve.
How will the Coir appearance evolve over time outdoors?
